The traditional Persian Orange AC paint was on the way out when this tractor was built, but it’s one of the last of the Allis-Chalmers badged 8070s. In fact, it’s widely reported that the last tractor to roll out off the line in West Allis, Wisconsin, was a Deutz-Allis badged 8070. At the time it was shot, this tractor was on the lot at Wannemacher Sales, an AGCO dealer in Ottoville, Ohio. It’s been upgraded with Firestone radial tires and rear duals, making it a traction powerhouse.

This REO Model H from 1912 features a 12-horsepower cast-iron engine, which transfers power through multi-plate clutches and a planetary gearbox to the chain-driven rear wheels. REO sold 2,300 of these during the pre-war period of 1911 to 1913. This platform was the basis for REO truck production.

The phrase “Tall in the Saddle” comes to mind here. The increased height of these tractors precluded their use in hilly country. They’re most often found in the Southeast or West, where they were used in vegetable farming. Sam’s came from Florida and was used to farm sugar cane, which is one of Florida’s biggest crops and why many Hi-Crops of all makes were sold there.

With a 119-inch wheelbase, the 9120 is a long tractor. That was a good thing from the weight balance and ride comfort standpoints, but made for a wide turning circle. This tractor weights more than nine tons before weight are added. It came standard with AWD and an 18-speed partial power shift transmission. This one has already lived a life of hard work but is not done yet. The rear dual radial tires make this a tractor that’s still up to long days in the field with big implements and tough ground. It’s seen here on AGCO Dealer J.L. Wannamacher’s lot in Ottoville, Ohio.

Though a rear three-point hydraulic lift was technically optional, it was so common in the U.S. imports that you could say “every one” had it. This one is missing its lower arms and links but has the adjustable hitch. For the Standard, the lift was a Class II and rated for about 2,800 lbs. The specs say this tractor was rated for a 2-14 mouldboard plow. When you look at specs for the four Porsche-Diesel tractor models, the plow rating is tied directly to the number of engine cylinders, in this case: two bottom for two cylinders. The hoop-like device on the rear fender is the passenger seating area. Not comfortable, but secure.
