LIMO X: A Six-Door Ford Excursion Built for SEMA

Thomas Szabo’s Six-Door Excursion Goes All-In

There are big SUVs, and then there’s LIMO X. Thomas Szabo has always loved Ford Excursions, but simply building another lifted example wasn’t going to cut it. He wanted the ultimate version for himself, so he reached out to the Truck Guru Cris Payne for some help. Afterroughly a year and around $150,000 later, his six-door creation made a pretty convincing argument while on display at the world famous SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV.

LIMO X

Building it required thinking well outside the factory blueprint. LIMO X combines the front half of a ’13 Super Duty with the rear half of an ’02 Excursion, with the two Ford frames spliced beneath the second row of seats. The body received the same treatment, stretching the Excursion to six doors while adding modern bedsides to match the Super Duty front fenders. An RK Sport cowl hood, custom Overkill Fab grille, Flog Steel Demon bumpers, Morimoto XB LED headlights, and Rigid lights finish the hardware.

Underneath the Monopoly wrap from Stealth Graphics Co. is Tuxedo Black paint with a copper-flake clearcoat laid down by Western Millennium after the shop handled the bodywork. The wild wrap might grab your attention first, but this thing has plenty of muscle behind the Monopoly money.

A 6.7L Power Stroke V-8 sits up front, backed by an S480 compound-turbo setup, a BD Diesel Scorpion intake manifold, a PPE intercooler and charge pipes, and a custom dual 5-inch axle-dump exhaust. Superior Diesel Service handled the engine work, including O-ringed heads, ARP head studs, new rings and bearings, and plenty of powdercoated hardware.

Getting a rig this long to move is one thing. Getting it to maneuver is another. Papis Garage designed a rear-steer system around a custom Sterling 10.5 axle fitted with Dana 60 knuckles built by CDM Fab. Up front is a ’13 Ford Dana 60, while both ends run 4.30 gears. Wilwood 6-piston brakes provide the stopping power.

The stance comes from a full-cradle 4-link air suspension using Slam Specialties SS-8 airbags and Locked Offroad 2.5-inch reservoir shocks. Ride height can swing from 8 to 16 inches of lift, while massive 44×15.5R30 Venom Power Swampthing MTs wrap custom-cut 30×16 American Force wheels. Do the tires rub? Thomas says, “Only if I forget to inflate the bags.”

Inside, LIMO X seats 10 people across two rows of heated and cooled buckets and two bench rows. Ripstich Upholstery finished everything in black suede and leather, while a full Kicker system hides a subwoofer in the second-row console and two more in a custom spare-tire enclosure. Thomas sums up the build best: “We left nothing untouched.”

On LIMO X, that’s definitely not an exaggeration.
