Getting Deep into Our FUMMINS PROJECT Our newest editorial build, this here 2008 F-450, has been our main focus for the last few months! We’re taking this old 6.4 Power Stroke truck and turning it into what we consider the “perfect swap” with our friends at Miller Built Diesel and Diesel Conversion Specialists. From what we’ve seen on Facebook Marketplace, the common swap for these trucks is a 12-valve Cummins, but we want more reliability and power to be able to haul our other vehicles to shows by slapping a 6.7 Cummins in it so we have all the tunability of the newer common rail-style engines. In our last issue, we were getting the engine cleaned up and torn down, and while our original plan was to go ahead and just refresh this engine with some exterior seals and a fresh oil change, we ended up finding a tiny bit of scoring in one of the cylinders—you know what that means. Subscribe Our Weekly Newsletter MIGHT AS WELL! If you didn’t catch our hint, our 6.7 found its way to the machine shop for a full overhaul along with a new set of bottom end bearings and fresh rings. The famous saying of “might as well” came in full swing as we were tearing into this engine. Thankfully Miller Built is no stranger to getting these engines back up and running after being in a million pieces, so as we’re waiting on some other parts in the mail, our 6.7 got the royal treatment in the engine room. So now not only do we have some great hard parts like ARP 625s, a fresh head from Kill Devil Diesel, Beans Diesel, and Fleece’s brand new Intake and Grid Heater Kit that you’ll see in this issue, but now I can drive loaded down confidently with a fresh bottom end to go along with everything else. NEXT IN LINE Parts are rolling in, we’re ready to get some powdercoating going, and hopefully this unit of a truck will be making its way onto the lift soon! We want to thank all of the awesome companies and readers that support the magazine and everything we do here—we wouldn’t be able to do it without you all! Catch you all next month for the next step in the 450’s life! Total 0 Shares Share 0 Tweet 0 Pin it 0 Share 0
