Unveiling the Latest Upgrades in ‘Stock to Not’

The latest upgrades to “Stock to Not”

After a slight setback in some labor oriented parts of this process (like extra machine work, and the transmission shop being behind) we have finally gotten “Stock to Not” to a point where the engine and drivetrain are ready to go back together.

As Cummins guys, mechanical ones at least, we know that these engines love big fuel, and we’re going to need a pretty significant amount to hit our 700HP goal. So we gave the guys at Dynomite diesel products a ring and they supplied us with a FULL DDP fueling kit. We will be running their stage 3 6x.020 injectors, stage 3 delivery valves, 4k governor springs, and P7100 RAC plug. This is the parts list they suggested, and will get this engine closure to the 800HP range with the correct charger setup and tuning. This will give us a little wiggle room to let it rip to hit our desired 700HP.

Let’s get into it –

For the sake of starting with the most time consuming thing to install, we began with the governor springs. As you can see, space is a little tight with the injection pump still on the truck but that’s why we have our friend Tyler from Dusk Til Dawn Diesel down here to help this process go smoothly (but mostly to keep us from messing something up). Setting these springs right is really important because it determines how much fuel your P7100 is going to supply when you apply throttle. If not done correctly, it will not let the truck run into the higher RPM range due to the pump restricting fuel delivery.

Next, we swapped out our delivery valves. This truck is a “new to us” truck and had recently had the injection pump bench tested and flowed, so we’re not sure of the specifics, but she runs great. That being said, this truck already had .191 DV’s, which are not stock in this 160 pump, but we are thankful the previous owner figured out how to keep his fueling system better fed (outside of installing a FASS Fuel System of course). Make sure to have a DV socket and a telescoping magnet for this or you’re going to have a bad time.

Here we’re installing our DDP stage 3 return overflow valve that hold the correct fuel pressure we need with the new setup.

Lastly, we reinstalled our fuel lines and new copper washers to get ready for our stage 3 DDP injectors. Our engine was already torn down from the head getting resurfaced, so we didn’t have to deal with getting the sometimes pesky old injectors out. These 6x.020 sticks will absolutely fuel us well over our 700hp goal, but like we said before, we would rather have more fuel than not enough, right?

After we got everything installed, we we primed the whole injection system before cranking the engine over. Once we made sure there was no air in the lines, we could rev the engine up a tad to make sure our governor springs were set up correctly. Then, we’re ready for a Muldoons diesel full manual valve body setup for our transmission and we’re off to the Dyno for our initial run!

Big shout out from Dynomite Diesel Products for supplying their stage 3 12 valve fueling kit. We can’t wait to get this truck making some real power with their quality products! Be sure to check them out for all of your fueling needs, especially if you’re looking for cleaner 12 valve performance fuel mods.
