Up next Flexplate Explained: The Critical Link Between Engine and Transmission Published on August 27, 2026 Author TUCKER HARRIS Share article Facebook 0 Twitter 0 Mail 0 The “Might As Well” Mentality of Diesel Truck Builds AS SEEN IN OUR SEPTEMBER 2026 ISSUE – Buy Now! There’s a certain mindset that almost every gear head, racer, and diesel enthusiast understands all too well. It starts with a simple phrase: “might as well.” It usually happens halfway through a project when one repair suddenly turns into five upgrades. You pull the transmission and think, “Well, I might as well do the clutch while I’m here.” Then it turns into injectors, a bigger turbo, a wire tuck, powder coating everything we can get our hands on, and somehow turns into an entirely different build than what you originally planned. The “might as well” mentality is both a blessing and a curse. It drains wallets, stretches timelines, and keeps builds parked in garages way longer than expected, but at the same time, it’s part of what pushes us further into the hobby. The extra effort, the late nights with homies, and the constant urge to improve things are what create the trucks that people remember. Sometimes it’s not logical. Sometimes it doesn’t make financial sense at all. But passion rarely does. Around here, “might as well” is more than an excuse. It’s the mindset that keeps enthusiasts chasing better, faster, cleaner, and louder no matter how deep into the project they already are.Subscribe Our Weekly Newsletter Thanks for reading!
