UCC ’21 Winning Truck Sells

After being up for sale for the better part of a year, it’s officially sold. Justin Ziegler let his UCC-winning Dodge go to a new home recently. At a hefty, 5,000-plus pound race weight, the ’06 Dodge turned in a 5.3-second eighth-mile at last year’s Ultimate Callout Challenge, laid down 2,443 hp and 3,282 lb-ft of torque on the rollers, and sealed the win with a 290-foot distance while hooked to the sled. After that, Zeigler ran a few select ODSS races competing in the 5.90 Index field, where the truck was in constant danger of breaking out. With this kind of power and speed already under his belt, our next question is what are Zeigler’s future plans? Pro Mod? We’ll have to wait and see.

Hollyrock Rail Goes 5-Blade

The fastest woman in diesel…is about to get even faster. Mattie Graves, pilot of the Hollyrock Customs rail, recently treated her twin-turbo’d Duramax-powered dragster to charger upgrades. For the 2022 season, each bank of the 6.6L will be fed courtesy of a 5-blade S400 from Stainless Diesel. With Stainless’s turbos known to set records, especially in the Pro Street column, look for Graves to push the Hollyrock rail much closer to the Duramax record this year. The points chase starts this weekend at Wagler Motorsports Park, the site of the first ODSS race in 2022.

Everyone’s Favorite Radial Tire Diesel Earns Its Quickest Pass To Date

In referring to his car as a 4.49 Index racer, Ryan Milliken certainly has jokes—but that 60-foot time is about as serious as a heart attack. The blue blur, Milliken’s (glacier blue) Nova, turned in a new best pass in Steele, Alabama over the weekend. Those 1.12 and 1.13-second 60-foots will prove the quickest on the car’s leaf spring arrangement, as it goes in to Tin Soldiers Racecars soon for a “leaf spring delete.” Look for Milliken and his Nova to be back out later this summer, where it will hopefully dig even deeper into the 4’s.

General Motors To Buy Back Select L5P Duramax-Powered Trucks

Although details have been anything but forthcoming so far, GM Authority broke news that a potentially massive buy-back program has begun at GM. The reason? An apparent hydro-lock, no-start issue associated with the newest version of the L5P Duramax has been cited. On April 21, GM began buying back the affected ’22 model Chevrolet and GMC HD trucks, and a stop-sale order has halted all ’22 sales going forward. However, replacement trucks offered to customers will be “subject to certain feature constraints due to the semiconductor chip shortage.” The availability of heated and/or ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, heated outboard rear seats, and front and rear park assist (among other things) are listed in these “constraints.”

NOAA: Atmospheric Methane And Carbon Dioxide Increasing At Record Rates

Upon analyzing data collected from its global sampling network, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports that the biggest annual increase in methane (CH4) ever recorded occurred in 2021. In addition, NOAA also states that carbon dioxide continues to increase at historic rates. According to NOAA, although CO2 remains in the earth’s atmosphere much longer than methane, CH4 is approximately 25 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere, which has an important short-term influence on climate change. Transport, fossil fuel production, decaying organic matter, and a byproduct of indigestion from ruminant animals such as cows all contribute to methane production.
