A Decade of Forward Progress for the 7.3l Power Stroke
Good engines never die, they just age well. Nearly 15 years since the last one left the assembly line, the aftermarket continues to push the 7.3L Power Stroke to new heights. Even though most have moved on to bigger and better things, the 7.3L die-hards remain—and they’re consistently pushing the envelope further and further.
Four-stroke diesels have long been the norm. Two-strokes? Sure, we all remember the “Screamin’ Jimmys” of years past… sometimes even fondly… and those legendary Uniflow GM diesels pretty much define the American memory of the two-stroke diesel. Few remember another two-stroke diesel that mounted a challenge in the American market.
Under Pressure: The Life and Death of Rudolf Diesel
Rudolf Diesel was vain, oversensitive, and paranoid. His stubborn and persistent disposition clouded his ability to make friends, while his sanctimonious bluster alienated those even in his own field. He was revolutionary, a Renaissance man in a Victorian era, a mechanical Michelangelo, painting with grease and gears, pressure and heat.
Jason Hunter—a.k.a. the “Tow Master” from Irwin, Pennsylvania—has one unique truck. Many people have seen this truck posted on Duramax forums under his screen name “Tow Master” as a top poster. Jason is very much a Duramax fan and has become very involved in the Dmax community. Understandably, his 2006 Silverado 2500HD is nothing to mess with.
Back in 2014 Ryan Milliken had a destructive run-in with the wall on the drag strip forcing retirement of his then current ride. The new truck would come to be known as Mini-Wheat, an homage to its older brother Buckwheat, with just as much power but in a smaller, lighter package. Late in 2014, the 2WD drag truck project began, and about eight months later, one of the best-looking drag trucks we’ve ever seen emerged.
Budget-minded drag racers have always had a knack for getting the most out of readily available engines with reasonable performance potential. And savvy gearheads have always had ways of building their own components rather than paying someone else to do it. Steven Davis is one such customer. Smart parts hunting, the ability to fabricate and a well-rounded set of wrenching skills have all contributed to his ’95 Ford F-350 churning out six-second, eighth-mile passes.
