Bully Dog Triple Dog Power Pup
Peak Horsepower: 352.7
Peak Torque: 548.49

Features: Bully Dog's Triple Dog Power Pup downloader increases horsepower and torque by re-flashing the vehicle's factory ECU. It plugs into the OBD II port and has four different horsepower settings to choose from: Stock, Tow, Performance and Extreme. When used with the Outlook Monitor from Bully Dog (They sell the Power Pup and Outlook Monitor individually or as a pair), the Power Pup offers on-the-fly tune changes and can read/clear DTCs and recalibrate the speedometer for changes in tire size. The Power Pup can also be updated with via the Internet to keep it up to date with Bully Dog's latest programming. If you can avoid the temptation of putting your foot to the floor and enjoying all of the extra power, Bully Dog does say that because the Power Pup increases engine efficiency it can also increase mileage.

Tools Used: None

Installation Time: Initial setup takes about 15 minutes

Installation Notes: The Power Pup comes from Bully Dog with a sticker reminding you to update the unit before installation. While the actual update process is a snap, there was no USB cable included with the kit so keep that in mind. There isn't any sort of "special" USB cable required, so we were able to borrow one from a nearby printer and were up and running in minutes.

Impressions: From about 2,800 rpm and on, the Power Pup woke up the animal in the 6.6L Duramax. The stock computer started tailing off at around 3,200 rpm, but the Power Pup extended the powerband another 200 rpm. When the Power Pup's horsepower peaked with 352.70 hp at 3,750 rpm, the stock computer was making a mere 200 hp. That's a gain of more than 150 hp. Likewise, at that same point the stock program was only at about 340 ft-lb of torque, while the Power Pup was hovering around 530 ft-lb. We did only test the Power Pup on the Extreme Program, so we can't say what effects the other programs, mainly the tow program, would have on the sub-2,800 rpm power.

Bully Dog's Power Pup offers four levels of power, can be updated online and with the Outlook Monitor, offers on-the-fly program changes. And that's only the beginning.

Notice how the power pup keeps pulling away from the stock program as the rpms increase, adding useable power and extending the powerband
