The muffler will now need to be installed in order to measure for the center pipe. The exhaust is universal to different cab configurations so extra length is included to fit all the configurations. We installed the rear hanger, which is made in the clamp and use vice grips to keep it from slipping out. We were fortunate enough to have stands to hold the front of the muffler while we measured. | After marking our pipe we added an additional 3 inches to the pipe to allow it to slip inside of the muffler. Measure twice and cut once as you can't add the length back on. With our Crew cab dually our section of pipe was cut to roughly 9 inches. | Our Flowtech exhaust uses hangers that are made in the clamps for an easy installation. Installing this hanger over the transmission cross-member assists in holding the pipe in the correct position. |
The small section of pipe, that we previously cut, is virtually unseen in the installation. Hangers are provided for all the factory mounted points. Although pipes may not connect in these locations the clamps work well to hang the pipe. | Coming out of the muffler we install our two curved pipes that have to snake around the extra large rear differential. Leaving these clamps loose will prove important when aligning the rear tips. | The tailpipes are extra long and allow you plenty of options for trimming and fit. Careful measuring can get the tips extremely close to the exact same position on both sides. We left several inches between the rear spring hangers and our pipe to avoid rattles. |
We slip our chrome tips over the tailpipes and mark our cutting location with a grease pencil. Be sure to leave an additional few inches to have some pipe to clamp to. We opted to tack weld our tips on to avoid unsightly clamps. | With our installation near completion you can see the monster pipe and dual tips out the rear of the truck. | Now that all of our pipes are where we want them we tighten all the clamps and double check clearance around the cross-member and transmission lines. |
Once on the ground you can see how the tip is just slightly out the rear for a clean and professional looking installation. Our exhaust tone is very throaty and much more pronounces then before. | On the chassis dyno our peak power was up 6hp and peak torque was up 11 lb-ft. What was more noticeable was the torque across the board which is useable in every gear. We were up almost 15 lb-ft throughout the rpm range. | |
