If you check the NADM website you'll find many new events have been added up to the end of September (still got October and November to book). In order to expand our markets we are checking out club's events by sponsoring and/or supporting their events with funds and sponsors. These are listed as affiliate events on the schedule. All others are full production NADM events where we manage, promote and produce the shows.
In NADM's quest to expand diesel motorsports and expose the sport to different markets we went to Yankee Lake, OH.
Yankee Lake, Ohio is located in the NE corner of the state in a small township of about 400 that swells to 4-5,000 people every Friday night at the Yankee Lake location at the edge of town. Lake dam was busted years ago and the owner cleared the bottom, dug mud bog ditches and started to let people bring their trucks in for fun runs.
It has grown into a carnival type atmosphere for truckers and 4x4 enthusiasts. They asked NADM to bring sled pulling to their facility this year which we happily accepted. The big plus for this particular pull was the local diesel semi club wanted to come and join the fun. For the first time a sanctioned diesel motorsport's association included diesel semis in the program. Many different models pulled during the event.
All day long the weather was hot (90º) and mostly clear skies, looked like the show was going to be a great weather night! About halfway into the show, one of the local officials came up to me and said I know it looks clear but look what is coming at us fast - he showed me local radar on his cell phone! It was solid red line coming right toward us!
We interrupted one of the classes to quickly bring in the Hushpower Monster truck since we know a lot of the crowd came to see it. The Hushpower Monster truck actually pulled the sled on a regular pull and went the full pull! About midway the weather started to hit and by the time most people ran for cover it was a torrential downpour with lots of lightning! Good for boggers but not for sled pulling!
Yankee Lake had something for everyone, sled pulling from NADM, mud bogging, offroad courses, tug-o-war, rock climbs, and even rides for the kids. A fun place for the entire family and a perfect place for us to introduce diesel motorsports to a lot of the locals.
