A&A Automotive Diesel East Coast Nationals

For decades, Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains have been the retreat of choice for folks living in New York City or New Jersey. They are is full of lush, green mountainsides, quaint, small towns and plenty of clean rivers and streams where you can leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind.

But several times a year, the Poconos are home to some of motorsports’ largest events: two NASCAR races at Pocono Raceway and one huge diesel event at Numidia Dragway, just south of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

Over the past four years, Diesel Motorsports, which took a big chance holding a diesel event in basically the middle of nowhere, has grown the East Coast Nationals to become THE premier diesel events on the East Coast. And despite its remote location, the event offers great bang for the buck.

First, Numidia Dragway sits on more than 200 acres of land, so accommodating camping and large crowds is not a problem. Secondly, the weather is usually mild in July, with occasional rain showers to cool things down. And thirdly, the event is well known for being family friendly; folks bring their kids, dogs, barbecues and ice chests for a day of diesel motorsports at its best.

As was the case last year, this year, the place was packed by noon with more trucks and folks still rolling through the gate. The crowd was estimated to be around 4,000, with 270 trucks competing in either the drag race, sled pulling and show-and-shine competition. A&A Automotive always rolls out the red carpet for diesel enthusiasts by setting up a huge tent that is chockfull of parts and accessories at way-discounted show prices.

Action started early and ran though the evening with sled pulling. The nice thing about the Numidia event is that folks were able to line up along both sides of both the quarter mile and sled-pulling track. Best of all, the event brought in all sorts of diesel enthusiasts who enjoyed sharing a day under partly cloudy skies with folks who love diesel just as much as they do.

For more information on next year’s event, keep an eye on Diesel Motorsports’ website: www.runnadm.com.

Moody Sets New World Record

Wade Moody and his wild Pro Stock, Duramax-powered, Flo-Pro-sponsored S-10 clicked off a new NADM unlimited diesel world record with a 178.76 mph pass at 7.73 seconds. The run was made official by an even faster 7.56 second run at 181 miles per hour. There’s nothing like seeing a parachute deploy from a diesel at the other end of the track.

The record beat his old record of 7.94 seconds at 171 mph. Looks like Wade and the Flo-Pro crew have figured out how to get fast and reliable runs from the Pro Stocker.

Pocono Raceway

No trip to the Pocono Mountains for a motorsports event would be complete without a visit to Pocono Raceway, which is just down the road about an hour away from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. The track opened in 1968 as a three-quarter-mile facility and was reshaped to its current 2.5-mile configuration in 1971.

The “Tricky Triangle,” because it only has three turns (Turn Four is actually painted on the crash wall as you leave Turn 3), hosted its first NASCAR Sprint Cup race in 1974. It currently hosts two events a year—one in June and one in August.

Besides its famous Long Pond straightaway, which is 3,740 feet long, the track is noted for its prime camping facilities, which offer water and electrical hookups. It has hosted all the NASCAR greats and is still a favorite among fans and drivers, alike.

For more information on the track and all its events, stop by www.poconoraceway.com or call 800-raceway for information.
